RARE Sampson West Indies Naval Campaign Medal1898 Spanish American War ServiceU.S.S OSCEOLA with 3 MANZANILLO Clasps + 1 TUNAS CLASPNaval Campaign 1898 . It is Un-named.This is a very nice bronze medal, as is the ribbon. It is un-named. The U.S.S. OSCELLO had a very small contingent of men during itsmultiple engagements during the 1898 Spanish American War.

• Crew Complement: The U.S.S. Osceola was a relatively small auxiliary armed tug purchased for the
• Spanish-American War. Its active wartime crew size was roughly 30 to 35 officers and men.
• Because the Sampson Medal was strictly awarded to the specific individuals who were onboard
• during qualified combat engagements, the maximum possible number of original medals issued with
• the U.S.S. Osceola ship brooch bar would naturally correspond to this small roster.
• Wartime Engagements: On the reverse of the medal or via authorized presentation bars, the crew
• of the U.S.S. Osceola qualified for multiple actions under Rear Admiral William T. Sampson's fleet operations.
• These specific engagements included:
  • Manzanillo (July 1)
  • Manzanillo (July 18)
  • Tunas (July 26)
  • Manzanillo (August 12)
