Russian Imperial Order of St. Stanislaus Antique Badge - Keibel Mfg. -A Rare Antique I Class Badge

Own a piece of history with thisprestigiousOrder of St. Stanislaus badge. Constructed of 14K gold with multi-colored enamels, consisting of a Maltese Cross with each arm completing in ball finials and ribbed fans, the obverse of the arms finish with dark red enamels and joined through the quadrants by Imperial Russian double-headed eagles executed in exceptional detail, bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted and interlaced red monogram of Saint Stanislaus in Latin characters. Situated within a circular 14kt gold laurel wreath with leaves completed in delicate green enamels.

The reverse bears an analogous central white enameled medallion overlaid by a hand-painted red monogram, the twelve o’clock arm fan topped by an integral loop which culminates in a suspension ring, the integral loop stamped with a zolotnik mark of “56” indicating 14K gold construction. Zolotnik mark is flanked by a Saint Petersburg city mark, the reverse of the twelve o’clock arm stamped with a distinct royal warrant, the reverse of the six o’clock arm stamped with the hallmark of the noted court jeweler Albert Keibel, measuring ~60.05 mm (w) x ~66.03 mm (h), weighing ~23.93 grams, demonstrating well-preserved enamels on the cross, an excellent exemplar in very fine condition except for missing a singleImperial Russian double-headed eagle axialle. The gold content alone in this medal makes a compelling buy.

History of the Order

Stanislawa, also spelled Stanislas or Stanislav, is a Russian dynastic order of knighthood founded as Order of the Knights of Saint Stanislaus, bishop and Martyr in 1765 by King Stanislaw II Augustus of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Instituted 8 May 1765 by Stanisław II August of Poland; incorporated into Russian orders 1831 by Tsar Nicholas I (1831-1917 issue).
Maker
Albert Konstantin Keibel was born in St. Petersburg in 1854 and became a prominent German jeweler, goldsmith and silversmith. He was taught by his father (Julius Eduard Keibel) and eventually inherited the family workshop, located at 30 Bolshaya Zelenina Street St. Petersburg in 1882. Between 1882 – 1905, he was awarded the imperial warrant for the creation of all Russian orders.

Albert died in 1910. He is largely considered one of the most important Russian jewelers.Common marks include “AK” or KEIBEL.
