A rare collection of 27 photos of Eniwetok Naval Base, taken in or around 1955 -- and there were 43 nuclear tests at Enewetok from 1948 to 1958. The sailors in these photos were surely irradiated and the base is uninhabitable, if it still exists and is not buried under concrete. The photos include both official photos with typed captions and amateur photos with handwritten captions. There are several scenes of Duffy's Tavern (including a large "cattle car" for transportation), along with photos of the mess, clubs, facilities, streets, LORAN station, a baseball game, several church services, and more. Each photo is about 5" x 3 1/2" and in good condition as shown. Some photos have more fading from age than others. They display extremely well.
