Battle of Nong Boua - January 1964 - Central Laos

The Battle of Nong Boua was a significant and symbolic engagement in the Laotian Civil War, which itself was a critical but often overlooked front of the broader Vietnam War.

It took place in January 1964, near the village of Nong Boua, in central Laos.

This battle marked one of the first major conventional victories for the Pathet Lao, the communist guerrilla movement in Laos, which was backed by North Vietnam and aligned with the broader Indochinese communist cause. The battle also helped solidify the Pathet Lao's control in parts of central Laos and demonstrated that the conflict in Laos was not just a civil war, but increasingly a proxy battleground for Cold War powers. It further blurred the lines between the Vietnam War and the Laotian Civil War, as Vietnamese and Laotian communist forces became more align="left">
