Person with Meritorious Service to the Revolution
National Liberation Front (NLF) commendation badge, issued in 1968 following the Tet Offensive, to recognize meritorious service in the revolutionary struggle within the Bình Trị Thiên region, an administrative zone encompassing Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, and Thừa Thiên provinces in central Vietnam.
The badge specifically honors contributions linked to actions around the city of Huế, one of the Tet Offensive’s most significant and symbolically powerful battles.
The central inscription reads "NGƯỜI CÓ CÔNG VỚI CÁCH MẠNG" (“Person with Meritorious Service to the Revolution”), and the scroll at the base bears "BÌNH TRỊ THIÊN", identifying the area of operations.
Awarded shortly after the Battle of Huế, this badge was given to NLF guerrillas, local cadre and civilian supporters who participated in or supported the coordinated attacks and occupation of Huế during Tet.
For nearly four weeks in early 1968, NLF and North Vietnamese forces held large portions of the city, carrying out both military operations and political actions, including the establishment of revolutionary committees and re-education measures.
The urban battle was the longest and bloodiest of the Tet Offensive.
Recipients of this badge were involved in direct combat, infiltration into Huế, intelligence gathering, logistics and civilian mobilization before and during the offensive.
Bình Trị Thiên served as a critical staging ground for the campaign due to its proximity to Huế and its role as a logistical artery along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
This is a rare piece of Viet Cong-issued recognition, commemorating frontline revolutionary efforts during a turning point in the Vietnam War.
