This is a vintage banner for SV Dynamo (Sportvereinigung Dynamo), the central sports association of the East German security organs, which included the Stasi (Ministry for State Security) and the Volkspolizei (People’s Police). The red field features the iconic white Gothic-style "D" set within a shield, a logo used by all Dynamo sports clubs across the GDR, most famously by SG Dynamo Dresden and BFC Dynamo Berlin. Because SV Dynamo was heavily subsidized and controlled by the state security apparatus under Erich Mielke, artifacts like this are significant pieces of Cold War history, representing the intersection of professional sports and political surveillance in East Germany!
