Soviet Excellent Railroad Administrator badgeof the “WW2 Railroad Proficiency” Series, mid-1940s – early 1950s issue.
Thisis a GUARANTEED ORIGINAL badge of Stalin era, not a more recent reissue orreplica!
Madein Brass and high-quality Hot-Baked Enamels; measures 40.9 mm in height fromthe bottom to the highest point of the flag (not including the flagpolefinial), 26.6 mm in width; weighs 15.6 g without the screw plate. A veryattractive and well-made piece of typical Soviet quality of the period. TheExcellent Administrative badge was one of several badges of the so-called WW2Railway Proficiency Series. These badges were introduced during the war, in1942 and were essentially medals for outstanding performance, often under enemyfire. They were hard to earn and their recipients would have various privilegesfor life! The Administrator Badge is one of the rarest of the badges of theseries.
Thebadge is in GREAT condition, especially for the scarce Administrator badge! Theenamel is very well-preserved and shows a beautiful luster throughout. Itappears practically perfect to the naked eye; a careful examination with a 10xloupe reveals tiny surface flakes on the right end of the banner, but these arenearly unnoticeable without magnification. There are no penetrating chips orrubbing; all the enamel is 100% ORIGINAL: there are no enamel repairs. Raiseddetails of the artwork are perfect and crisp. The screw post is original, offull length measuring approx. 12 mm, and has not been repaired. The badgeincludes the original screw plate maker-marked in Cyrillic “ShZ-D MPS”(“Mechanical Stamping Factory, Ministry of (Railway) Transportation.”
Thisinteresting and uncommon Soviet award can be an equally nice addition to anycollection of Russian medals or railroad memorabilia. The RailroadAdministrator Badge is very hard to find in as nice a condition as the exampleoffered here!
