This is one of the few MVDmedals specific to a republic, awarded for a short time in the early 60s wheneach republic in the Soviet Union had its own, "independent" MVD(Ministry of Internal Affairs) which included Police and Internal Army Troops.Only 5 republics including RSFSR actually issued the "republican" MVDmedals, although 14 out of 15 had their own MOOP medals later on, from 1962-1966.The “republican” MVD medals were never issued after 1962 and therefore they arerelatively scarce.
