This membership badge represents the Dobrovolnoe Obshchestvo druzei vozdushnogo flota, the Voluntary Society of Friends of the Air Fleet, a mass aviation organization founded in 1923 to promote civil and military aviation across the Soviet Union. The society encouraged public enthusiasm for aviation, organized fundraising for aircraft construction, and helped establish aviation as a symbol of national progress and defense. The winged motif with the red star reflects the visual identity used during this formative period.
The ODVF expanded through the 1920s and was consolidated into the all Union ODVF structure in 1932 before later becoming part of Osoaviakhim as Soviet defense and aviation organizations were reorganized. Membership badges such as this were issued to paying members as proof of affiliation and support. This example illustrates the early style of Soviet aviation societies prior to their merger into larger defense assistance organizations.
Please note that there is some play to the propeller appliqué as the through-pins aren’t fastened as tight as they once were. The “hot baked” enamel is original to this piece. The screw post has seen significant wear and I believe the screw plate to be original.
