Item Description

These items are very rare! These were presented to members of the famous Hump Pilots Association who had one of their last reunion trips to China in 2005. The Hump Pilots Association officially disbanded in 2005 due to the advanced age of most of their members. (Read more below). I am listing a fantastic Hump Pilots Association book as well with a few pictures, check my site! You will receive the presentation cased medal and the wings. The medal measures approximately 4” tall x 1.75” wide and the wings measure 3” wide x 1” tall. They are both in very nice condition but could show light scratches or spot discoloration. The outer protective case works well, but the clear plastic front has many light scratches.

There are two badges in the plastic case with the blue lanyard. One is the VIP V60 badge indicating special access & care while at the event. It measures approximately 5” x 3” and has good color. The smaller badge on the backside works as a “Contact Card” (it’s numbered 115) and has Chinese writing and English to help the person navigate safely while a guest in China for the V60 celebrations.

Overall - Both items are extremely Rare and an important part of military history between the U.S. & China.

In 2005, China marked the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II with a wreath-laying ceremony and a meeting in Beijing, rather than a large military parade. The events were held on September 3, the day China observes its victory over Japan in what it calls the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Key details of the commemoration:

Wreath-laying ceremony: A solemn ceremony was held at the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square. Meeting at the Great Hall of the People: Following the ceremony, a meeting was held where speeches were delivered. No military hardware: Notably, the 2005 events did not feature a military parade with hardware, unlike later major anniversaries. This was in contrast to China's 60th National Day celebration in 2009, which included a large-scale military review. Contrasting approaches: In a 2005 address to the United Nations, Chinese Ambassador Wang Guangya delivered a statement noting that many countries were celebrating the victory against fascism in various ways and paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives.

The modest 2005 event contrasts sharply with the large-scale military parades that China later held for the 70th (in 2015) and 80th (in 2025) anniversaries.

**Hump Pilots Association (HPA) officially disbanded in 2005 after holding their 60th reunion.

The last reunion: Reports indicate the 2005 reunion was the final one, due to the advancing age of the surviving pilots.
