USMC, INTER DIVISION, 10K, GOLD RIFLE SHOOTING EIC COMPETITION BADGE

This is the United States Marine Corps Division Rifle Competition Badge, often referred to as an "EIC" (Excellence-in-Competition) Badge.

This is an authentic, highly sought-after Marine Corps Inter-Division Competition Badge dating from the late 1960s to early 1970s. This piece is in exceptional original condition, featuring a 1/10 10k gold construction with a light, natural patina that highlights its history.

Unlike the common "alloy metal" reproductions found online, this is a genuine vintage award characterized by superior craftsmanship and weight. We guarantee the authenticity and era of this piece; its quality and finish are immediately apparent upon handling.

Most badges found on the secondary market today are modern "restrike" versions intended for costumes or shadow boxes. They are typically cast from lightweight, brittle pot metal with a spray-on gold finish. This specimen is an original strike with the crisp detail, weight, and luster that only a vintage gold-filled piece can provide.

The medallion depicts a detailed shooting range scene, including shooters in the prone position and the distinctive A-frame tents used in historic Marine Corps rifle matches (like those at Camp Perry or Quantico). The small Eagle, Globe, and Anchor at the bottom confirms its Marine Corps origin.

While standard qualification badges are earned by every Marine, this badge is only awarded to those who place in the top 10% (historically sometimes top 15%) of non-distinguished shooters in a sanctioned Division Match.

These matches are held annually across different regions (Eastern, Western, Far East, and Pacific). Winning this badge earns a Marine "leg points" (6, 8, or 10 points depending on the ranking). Accumulating 30 points earns the title of Distinguished Rifleman, one of the highest honors in military marksmanship.

While some high-level shooting trophies (like the McDougal or Lauchheimer trophies) or the final "Distinguished" badges are often engraved with the recipient's name and year, the Division-level EIC (Excellence-in-Competition) badges were frequently issued un-engraved.

The fact that this is 10K gold (or gold-filled) marks it as a Gold-level award, meaning the Marine who won this didn't just place in the top 10%—they were at the very top of that elite bracket (the top 1/6th of the qualifying group). They would have earned 10 "leg" points toward the 30 needed for the Distinguished Rifleman Badge.

It’s a serious piece of "Marine Corps hardware. It remains a testament to someone being one of the best marksmen in the Corps at the time.

On a uniform, this is worn in place of the standard "Expert" badge, as it represents a much higher level of competitive achievement.
