Item Description

This is a collector grade authentic Vietnam War era U.S. Marine Corps M1 steel helmet set complete with its original Mitchell pattern camouflage cover, steel pot shell, and DRMO-marked composite liner. The reversible canvas camouflage cover features a crisp, dark black stenciled USMC Eagle, Globe, and Anchor (EGA) emblem prominently across the front seam fabric. The reverse autumn side of the cover retains clear stenciled contract text on the fabric reading "COVER, HELMET, CAMOUFLAGE / CONTRACT NO. 8189 / 8415-261-6833", dating the cover specifically to the early 1965 contract production run.

The textured olive drab steel pot shell features swivel bails, a stainless steel rear seam rim, and original olive green canvas webbing chinstraps fitted with black-finished T-1 ball-and-hook hardware. The high-gloss composite helmet liner features prominent black stenciled military disposition marks reading "DRMO" on its exterior flanks. Inside, the internal suspension crown webbing fabric is exceptionally clean and stamped "F 103" directly onto the cloth.

WHAT "DRMO" MEANS FOR THIS HELMET: The "DRMO" stenciled on the sides of the composite liner stands for Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office. This indicates that after its active military service life, the helmet assembly was processed through the U.S. Department of Defense surplus system for property transfer or public sale. For military collectors, DRMO markings serve as authentic period military provenance, tracing the helmet's official lifecycle from USMC field issue to its release into the civilian surplus market.
