Description USS Monitor Civil War Letters / Documents By Lieutenant Samuel Dana Green. This is a Historically Important letter. We are offering two letters one is 4 pages double sided, and the other is 13 pages single sided. These are both done on paper that dates to the Civil War. These are the original letters that Samuel Dana Green wrote, of his own eye-witness account of the battle between the U.S.S. Monitor and the C.S.S. Virginia (formerly U.S.S. Merrimack) on March 9 Th, 1862. These  are not  copies , but the original hand written letters dating to the time of the Civil War. Provenance this letter descended in the family of Samuel Dana Greene. We contacted the Navy Department Library thinking they would have the original, they came back and told us.  They only have a photo copy of the original. We have also check with the New York Historical Society Museum & Library\'s catalog record and can not seem to find the original letter. This is one of the most significant Civil War Navy Battle Letters to come up for sale. The 1st  letter is 13 pages  dated March 14Th 1862, each page measures 9 1/2\" height, 6\" width. The second letter 4 pages double sided, each page  measures 10 1/2\" height by 8\" width.  The paper is correct and dates to the era of the civil war.
