40s-50s Korean Souvenir Jacket

Finally! Took me long enough to get my hands on one of these. I’m sure you all already know about souvenir jackets. I was told that the man who wore this fought in the Korean War, however was stationed there prior to the conflict. I believe this jacket is from the late 40s due to the lack of the 38th parallel (the line separating North and South Korea). The line was drawn in 1945 but didn’t become relevant in depictions such as embroidery until wartime. The true outer shell is the orange side, which features dragon chest embroidery, and a hawk on the back. The reverse features tiger chest embroidery, and a map of Korea on the back.

There were some seams coming undone, but I hand sewed them back together with a ladder or “invisible” stitch. So they’re all good to go! Unfortunately, the zipper pull broke off while I was repairing the jacket. I believe someone had taken off the zipper pull on one side, and improperly replaced the little bracket that connects it to the tooth mechanism. The jacket still zips well though! Just needs the pulley bracket replaced.

Was going to keep for myself but decided it was best for another person to have a chance at it!
