OriginalWW1 (1918) field printed British map of the Western Front which was printed in early August 1918.
(B.E.F. - ITALY)
The map came to me in a collection of similar British maps printed late in the War, the majority of which were marked 'Intelligence GHQ'.
It gives an up to date recordin this area of the Marne and Aisne regions of France, recording the "APPROXIMATE LINE ON 3rd AUGUST 1918" and comparing it to an earlier line labelled... "PROBABLE EXTENT OF GERMAN ADVANCE". The advance referred to was that achieved by the Germans during their impressive SPRING OFFENSIVE which ground to a halt two weeks earlier.
The following Allied counter surge that led to the end of the War (which would become known as the 100 Days Offensive), began on the 8th August, and the original owner of the map has begun to record his own pencil frontlines extending the Allies' positions as far as 2nd September 1918.
Features REIMS, SOISSONS, PARIS and COMPIEGNE where the Armistice was famously signed.
Interestingly, it has been field printed in Italy by the AP & SS (Army Printing & Stationery Services) and is of the kind prepared in small numbers for Intelligence Briefings etc.
Maps originating from this often forgotten Battle front rarely come on to the market, and I currently have a small number available.

PLEASE NOTE- Following BREXIT, some items exported from the UK to EU countries may now incur import tariffs on arrival. This depends on the overall value of the item (or items) contained within the package. UK sellers are now required to display these details in the form of a Customs Declaration attached to the outside of the package.Such matters are beyond my control as the process is administered by the Customs Department of the destination country. With this in mind, please can all buyers from EU countries make themselves aware of how these changes may affect them when purchasing items from the UK. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
