Item up for sale is an incredible antique trench art vase made from an artillery shell. Many pieces of trench art were done by starving artisans in areas torn by warfare with a minority truly done by soldiers in the field or hospital. This one was absolutely done in a naive style so was almost certainly done by a soldier instead of an artisan.
This piece has an S and anchor mark on the underside of the base with other markings we either cannot make out or that are unfamiliar to use. This piece has a hand hammered design depicting a woman in erotic pose in a bedroom scene with stand and objects visible in the background. Upper edge of the woman\'s head has a crack in the brass where it looks like the soldier artist got too heavy handed. Exterior surface shows a shellac which highlights the tarnish and patina the entire piece exhibits. No artist or soldiers name was found on this piece. Underside of the base shows a hole where item was defused and possibly prepared for use as a lamp. Shell casing measures 13-5/8\" top to bottom by 3-3/8\" wide across the base.
