Up for sale we have a very nice named German WWII M40 helmet


This helmet is a very solid example with very little to no rust. Given its condition I can only assume this was originally a vet bring back trophy.


When I first got this helmet it was covered in multiple layers of post war paint. It appeared a hippie of the 60/70s once painted it with smiley faces bright colors. After some careful work I was able to strip away these layers of post war paint and bring back the helmet to its original field grey color. Thankfully whoever painted this in the post war era painted right on top of the original paint, so the original paint was still there after all those years. You’ll notice some areas of white paint spots scattered around the helmet. These are the remains of the hippie paint base coat. I tried my best to remove all the small spots, but some of them were stubborn. You’ll also notice some areas of green/brown paint scattered on the helmet. This was the final layer of paint before hitting field grey factory paint, and I guess it could be remnants of a field applied camouflage?


This inside of the helmet is very nice, but unfortunately no liner is present. Just the liner band, the liner rivets, and a small fragment of the leather chinstrap. The original owners name 'Görner' is still written on the inside of the helmet. It’s a nice wartime addition, and it adds a cool personalized touch.


The stamps are hard to read, but I believe this is an EF64 example.


After removing the post war paint I could see a faint outline of a SD on the left side of the helmet, but unfortunately that’s all that was there.


This is a very nice non relic condition helmet with original paint, and an original name!
