DescriptionOriginal WW2 era fighting dagger manufactured early in the war by as a “private purchase” sidearm. These handy daggers came up for sale from time to time but the name of the original maker has been lost to time. This exact type is illustrated on page 194 of KNIVES OF THE UNITED STATES MILITARY WORLD WAR II book by Michael W Silvey – a well-established expert and the author of several books on the subject of the US military edged weapons (see book’s page scan attached).
This fighting dagger is about 12” / 30.5 cm overall; excellent quality tool-grade high-carbon steel dual-edge blade is about 7-3/4″ / 19.7 cm. This is an early-war type that had mostly disappeared as the war progressed and aluminum became unavailable for items deemed “non-essential” for the war effort. Dual edge blade is very sharp still; the tip is intact. The handle is solid; all parts are tight with no play. Hard-to-find original leather scabbard is included. The scabbard is well-used with a small cut at the throat and a puncture near the tip. Original stitching, staples and keeper; the leather is stiff, dry and the cracked on the keeper – this scabbard is good for display only. The front panel was nicely decorated by the GI with his initials FE and the arrow-pierced heart.
This attractive WW2 American fighting dagger is in very much serviceable condition still; with proper care and a new sheath this old timer will last you another 85 years ;) The knife has not been cleaned or tempered with. Not cleaned; these are the actual photos. I have more WW1 and WW2 knives and daggers in my store - please take a look at similar listings.
