Condition: Excellent, with thehandle free from cracks, chips, or other damage. The cover features a well done repair but is otherwise free from any damage or major wear.The inside is stamped with GI8 in large font and J.H.C. in small font. Given the field repair, stampings, and 1917 date, this shovel was almost certainly issued and used during WW1!
This shovel is the M1910 entrenching tool, used in WW1 by the U.S. Army to dig and fortify trenches. This particular shovel is marked U.S. twice on the handle, and the cover is marked NB CO 1917. The shovel measures 21 3/4" in length x 6 1/2" wide. These original WW1, combat issued entrenching tools complete with cover are very difficult to find, so don't miss out on this one!!
