Item Description
Up for sale is a fascinating, highly collectible piece of World War II maritime and home front history. This original 1944 British "Aliens Order" Temporary Shore Leave Permit was officially issued to an American merchant mariner in a British port just weeks before D-Day. The document grants temporary shore leave to a U.S. citizen serving as the 3rd Assistant Engineer aboard the vessel S.S. (M.V.) San Antonio. Issued under the strict British Defence (General) Regulations and Aliens Restriction Orders of 1940–1942. This pass allowed foreign "alien" crew members to step ashore under tight wartime supervision, requiring them to report any change of address to local police. Features a crisp, bold ink stamp from the H.M. Immigration Officer dated 23 MAY 1944, alongside an official "PORTS" stamp. Shows original light folds and minor edge wear/damage consistent with being carried by a seaman in a port. This piece would be a fantastic addition for collectors of WWII Militaria, Merchant Marine history, maritime ephemera, or immigration documents. Please look at pictures for best description.
