$20.00

Scarce grouping of Original WWII letters, written by an officer in the 29th Infantry Division who landed in Normandy at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6th, 1944. This officer served in the 29th Infantry Division throughout the 1944-45 campaign in Europe, earning two Bronze Star medals (possibly three, according to his obituary, which can be found online). He was also awarded a French Croix de Guerre, and on his E.T.O. ribbon four bronze campaign stars plus a bronze arrowhead device for the Omaha Beach assault on D-Day.

*** The letters were written by Captain/Major Russell Austin \"Judge\" McCoy Jr., Headquarters, Divisional Artillery, 29th Infantry Division.

It\'s an interesting grouping. There are a total of 7 original letters, 6 of them with covers.Five of the letters are handwritten. The other two are V-Mail letters. The letters were all written by Captain/Major McCoy while serving overseas with the 29th Infantry Division.

There is a variety of interesting content, including mention of various 29th Division officers, good content about wartime England, frustration with censorship, news of the campaign in Sicily and anticipation of Italy\'s surrender, about McCoy\'s \"murderous designs on Hirohito\", loneliness, eagerness to go home, and more.

An interesting grouping. Some of the covers exhibit wear and damage. *** See photos. ***

*** Major McCoy landed on D-Day in the initial assault with the advance parties of the 110th Field Artillery battalion, which landed with elements of the 115th Infantry Regiment between Colleville-sur-Mer and Saint-Laurent-sur-Mer.

*** According to a D-Day memorial website Major McCoy\'s first Bronze Star medal was awarded for service on D-Day, 6 June 1944, at Omaha Beach.
