Original WWII letters, written by a United States Marine Corps rifleman who served in the 4th Marine Division, with which he fought in the 1944 battles for the Marshall Islands, Saipan (where he was severely wounded), and in the 1945 Battle of Iwo Jima.

There are 2 original letters in this grouping, both with their original covers. One was written in July 1945, during the 4th Division's training and refitting after the Iwo Jima battle in anticipation of participation in the expected invasion of Japan. The other was written by this marine while assigned to a casual rehabilitation company at a convalescent rest camp in 1944, during his recovery from his June 1944 Saipan wounds.

This marine served in Regimental Weapons Company, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division.
