📌 DESCRIPTION
Clandestine operations. Unconventional warfare. A specialized chapter of American intelligence history. This CIA Field Activities Training Group (FATG) challenge coin combines its distinctive crossbow insignia with detailed artwork recalling the origins of American covert operations. Its specific organizational identification and historical imagery make it particularly appealing to collectors specializing in the Central Intelligence Agency, clandestine training, and the traditions of American special operations.
The obverse prominently displays the FATG crossbow and upward-pointing arrow insignia, executed in raised gold-tone metal against a teal enamel shield. The sweeping crossbow, central arrow, and geometric shield create a bold, recognizable design. Dark recessed accents surrounding the emblem emphasize the sculpted metalwork, while the contrasting enamel brings additional depth and definition to the insignia.
The reverse presents an elaborate scene recalling the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and the airborne infiltration missions of World War II. A cloaked operative wearing a brimmed hat stands beneath a military transport aircraft, holding a concealed dagger while parachutists descend in the background. The imagery evokes the clandestine warfare traditions associated with OSS operations, including those of the Jedburgh teams, whose personnel parachuted behind enemy lines to support resistance movements and unconventional warfare. Raised laurel branches frame the composition beneath the prominent FIELD ACTIVITIES TRAINING GROUP inscription.
The 1947 inscription commemorates a defining year in American intelligence history. Established under the National Security Act of 1947, the Central Intelligence Agency inherited an important institutional and operational legacy from America’s wartime intelligence organizations, including the OSS, which had been dissolved in 1945. This historical reference connects the coin’s clandestine-operational imagery with the establishment of the modern CIA.
The combination of FATG identification, recognizable crossbow insignia, and historically meaningful reverse artwork gives this particular coin considerable appeal within specialized intelligence-community collections. Its dual-sided design brings together organizational identity and the traditions of covert action in a single collectible.

🧭 CONDITION & PHOTO NOTES
This CIA Field Activities Training Group challenge coin retains well-defined crossbow and arrow insignia, vibrant teal enamel, sharply raised reverse artwork, and an attractive antiqued gold-tone finish, with light surface marks, minor finish variation, and visible edge wear from prior handling and storage. The recessed dark accents provide excellent contrast around the FIELD ACTIVITIES TRAINING GROUP lettering, aircraft, parachutists, and 1947 inscription. Small surface marks are also visible in the teal enamel under close inspection.
