Civil War Cavalry Captain Rank Insignia - Shoulder Boards
In 1836, the US Army adopted the use of smaller shoulder boards/straps as an alternative to full size epaulettes for field duty. These boards/straps featured a background color that coordinated with the branch of service and had either genuine bullion embroidered rank insignia or stamped metal \"faux\" embroidery. Worn during the Mexican War and the Civil War, they were the standard form of uniform rank all the way up until they were officially replaced in 1872. Our shoulder boards are top quality, authentic reproductions of original embroidered boards. They are sold in pairs as shown in the photos.
Orders for multiple items will be combined after checkout in order to reduce shipping costs and the overage refunded.
