A Commander’s breast badge of the early Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army, issued during the RSFSR period and featuring the hammer and plow within the five‑pointed star, a defining emblem of the first generation of RKKA insignia. Surviving examples show notable variation in details, proportions, and finishing, reflecting production across multiple small workshops before the later standardization of Red Army badges in the mid‑1920s.
This piece does not include the original screw plate. The white enamel is original and I believe the red paint to be a later addition that fluoresces under ultraviolet light (see image). The threads on the screw post are in very good condition and typical of the hand‑cut nature produced at the time. Excellent aging is present across the rest of the brass components. There is also some of the original silvering present on the areas that are well protected from surface contact.
