I am thrilled to offer this exceptionally rare uniform grouping for a Oberwachtmeister (Senior Watch-Master) of East Germany’s Hafenpolizei (Harbor Police). The Hafenpolizei was a unit within the Abteilung Wasserschutzpolizei (Water Police Department) and was tasked with specialized operational security at the seaports of Rostock and Wismar, as well as in Stralsund and Mukran. Their primary responsibility was maintaining order, enforcing security, and patrolling commercial ports, docks, and coastal waterways.
The entire uniform - Tunic, dress shirt, and trousers - is in unissued condition. The silver bullion of the collar and shoulder insignia are perfectly tight and the gold-washed accents remain 100% coated. Absolutely no stains or signs of wear. The original tag remains on the trousers. Sizes are shown in photos; the dress shirt and tunic fits like a US XL and the trousers fit like a US 32x32.
This uniform belonged to a long-serving member of the NVA, as indicated by the following medals (from top left to bottom right):
• For excellent service, Mdi
• Medal for outstanding achievements in the armed organs of the Mdl
• 40 years of GDR
• Medal for faithful service in the armed organs of the Mal, silver (10 years)
• Medal for faithful service in the armed organs of the Mal, bronze (5 years)
• VP Classification Badge of the Interior Ministry, Level 3
The interior stamps show this was a relatively late-produced uniform:
Tunic - 1st quarter of 1990
Trousers - 1st quarter of 1987
Dress shirt - 2nd quarter of 1988
Overall, this uniform represents a well-decorated NCO of one of the rarest branches of the NVA and would be a highlight piece of a serious collector. I have never seen another available on or any militaria site.
