Item Description
See my other sales for more dug relics found while metal detecting around the old military camps at Columbus, New Mexico-the site of Pancho Villa\'s raid in 1916, Hachita, NM, and subsequent military camps associated with the Punitive Expedition and WW1.
This relic mess spoon was found at the old military camp at Hachita, New Mexico, just west of Columbus. Several Cavalry troops were stationed there from 1914 thru1919, one of which was troop E of the 9th Cavalry (Buffalo soldiers) in 1916. This spoon is stamped USQMD (Quartermaster Dept), and also stamped \"E\" and \"9\". I believe there is a pretty good chance it belonged to a member of the 9th Cavalry Buffalo soldiers. In dug condition, still has some of the silver plating. It could use a good cleaning to make the \"USQMD\" stand out better. Measures 6\" long. Great Mexican Border Wars/WW1 display item!
