Soviet Medal for Irreproachable Service inKGB State Security, 2nd Class (awarded for 15 years of uninterruptedgood service).
KGB isof course the Russian acronym for Komitet Gosudarstvennoi Bezopasnosti(Committee for State Security). This is a 100% GUARANTEED ORIGINAL, officialSoviet-made KGB medal, not a replica, post-Soviet reissue or souvenir!
Producedby the Soviet Mint during the 1960s-80s. The medallion is made of silver-platedand gilded brass and measures 37.0 mm in height including the eyelet, 32.0 mmwide; it weighs 16.8 g not including the suspension and connecting link.
Thismedal was awarded EXCLUSIVELY to career officers of the KGB; no officer in anyother branch of service could get it. KGB medals differ from all other kinds ofSoviet long service medals by having a Roman numeral on the front. Note alsothat the back of the medal only says “For Irreproachable Service,” notspecifying the branch (for obvious reasons).
Thefont of writing is also peculiar to the KGB medals – but of course, only the initiatedwould know that back in Soviet times! Few badges were awarded exclusively toSoviet KGB officers but no other medals (although they could get general issueorders and medals such as the Order of Lenin etc.) This makes KGB long servicemedals truly unique in this respect.
Themedal is in SUPERB CONDITION. All details are perfect and crisp and there is novisible wear aside from a couple of tiny dings to the raised edge, almostunnoticeable without magnification. The original gold and silver finishes areperfect and bright, free of blemishes or oxidation spots.
