ABOUT THE GAR:The Grand Army of the Republic was the premier Union Civil War veterans organization, active from 1866-1956. By 1919, when this invoice was issued, membership consisted of elderly veterans in their 70s and 80s - the \"Boys in Blue\" in their final years.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT:1919 was a poignant year for the GAR as membership declined rapidly. Documents from this late period are scarce, as most Posts closed within the next decade. This invoice represents the continued efforts to maintain organizational traditions and dignity as the Civil War generation passed.
CONDITION NOTES:Excellent condition for 105-year-old document. Minimal handling wear. All text clear and legible. Original fold lines present.
RARITY:GAR supply invoices are uncommon survivors, especially from the late period (post-WWI) when few veterans remained.
Perfect for:✓ Civil War memorabilia collectors✓ GAR & veterans organization historians✓ New York military history✓ 19th century fraternal organization research✓ Union veteran studies
