The Border Troops of the KGB of the USSR are troops intended to guard and protect the state border of the USSR, to prevent and suppress encroachments on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.Structurally, they were part of the State Security Committee of the USSR (KGB USSR; until 1978, they were part of the KGB under the Council of Ministers of the USSR).From the start of the Great Patriotic War, border guards along the entire western border of the USSR took the first blow from the Wehrmacht and its allies. When retreating from the state border, border units continuously participated in rearguard battles. Then, border troops became the basis of the NKVD troops for protecting the rear. For courage and heroism shown in the first battles with a superior enemy on the state border, 826 border guards were awarded orders and medals of the USSR. 11 border guards were awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union, 5 of them posthumously. It was precisely due to the fierce resistance of the border units that a significant delay in the enemy's advance occurred, which made it possible for the Soviet army units to regroup.Badge of Soviet Army Veteran, 100% original, for the collection of military and army badges of the We combine shipping!
